They want to make the changes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8212; after allowing only 10 weeks for people to prepare and submit comments<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8212; with very little gathering of data, empirical study, or close study of other civil justice systems across Canada and the world<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reform is absolutely necessary.  But is  leaping into the unknown in December 2025 really better than leaping onto a well-studied landing spot a bit later in 2026?  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you agree that we need neutral evidence-based evaluation of the CRR&#8217;s proposed changes,  the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lco-cdo.org\/en\/learn-about-us\/how-you-can-help\/\">Law Commission of Ontario<\/a> (LCO) might be Ontario&#8217;s best hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>The LCO, which is based at Osgoode Hall Law School, is mandated to \u201cadvance law reform and promote access to justice\u201d through rigorous research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The LCO has its own funding, and it happens to be looking for new project proposals <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lco-cdo.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/2025-Call-for-Project-Proposals-Selection-Criteria-and-Application-Info.pdf\">right now<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are making a <a href=\"https:\/\/civiljusticewatch.ca\/?p=38\">submission<\/a> to the CRR (please do!), then please consider asking for the CRR to <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(i) invite the LCO to evaluate the Discussion Paper proposals, and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(ii) pump the brakes on this process, to give the LCO some time to do this work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>thanks for reading!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Civil Rules Review has proposed enormous changes to the Rules of Civil Procedure.
